Reflectronics

Reflectronics, Inc. was formed in 1993 to commercialize the CoAguLite Cutting Time Control Technology which determines the endpoint of the coagulation process in cheese making. The FluorLite-MC milk coagulation sensor technology, introduced in 2019, measures both an infrared light backscatter and a fluorescence signal during the milk coagulation step in cheese making. The FluorLite-MC excels in the accurate and repeatable determination of the endpoint. The FluorLite-LX was introduced in 2020 and was developed to measure the performance of whey filtration processes. The sensors manufactured by Reflectronics have a long history of performance and sensors utilize the same, industry tested and proven, robust and sanitary design features.

Optical Sensors from Reflectronics

CoAguLite – The CoAguLite Cutting Time Control Technology was introduced in 1993 to commercialize an optical technology for automating the cutting time selection in cheese making. The performance consistency of the technology results from the use of the latest optical technology, a robust sensor design, and employment of fundamental principles of chemical reaction kinetics.

FluorLite-MC – FluorLite-MC cutting time control technology uses infrared and fluorescence measurements to provide the most advanced process control available for monitoring and controlling the milk coagulation step in cheesemaking by providing control of the cutting time setpoint and desired gel firmness.

FluorLite-LX – An inline sensor measuring “true” protein in dairy permeates with the use of tryptophan fluorescence which ignores non-protein nitrogen.  A novel innovation automatically corrects measurement for the light-extinction effect of solids in whey permeate.  Standard 4-20mA output calibration is scaled 0 – 0.1% protein.  Other calibration ranges are available.   Effective up to 10% solids.

FluorLite Protein Meter – A laboratory or At-line version of the FluorLite-LX sensor quickly and easily measures permeate protein content without additional consumables.  Measures up to 0.5% protein with a 0.001% readability.  A standard 2-ounce (50mL) sample can be measured in as little as 10 seconds (up to 40 seconds).

FluorLite-PF Sensor - The FluorLite-PF sensor combines Reflectronics’ unique fluorescence sensor technology for measuring protein with traditional Vis-NIR technologies for measuring milkfat in one sensor. The fluorescence technology relates the fluorescence of the amino acid tryptophan to the protein content of milk. The FluorLite-PF sensor measures liquid milk protein and milkfat contents in the range up to 6 % with a SEP less than 0.05% for both protein and milkfat between 2 and 6%. There is only a small correction factor needed to adjust for raw milkfat in the plant to account for differences in milkfat globule size distribution that results from pumping or separating actions. The protein sensor is calibrated at the plant and no in-plant calibration is needed.
