FluorLite Protein Meter Performance Report

May 22, 2025

Installation
A FluorLite Protein Meter was used by a large cheese making company in the US starting in July 2024. It is being used to measure true protein on both milk UF Permeate and cheese whey UF permeate. The plant conducts 30 to 40 tests per day and an additional 100 tests per week on various streams.

Performance Feedback
After 10 months of operation, the following performance feedback was received from technical personnel supervising the operation:
  • The unit was removed from the box, plugged in, and operated with no calibration needed. It is a space-saving benchtop unit and did not require installation or a complicated setup.
  • It has a robust simple design that is simple to operate and has no moving parts like sampling pumps in other instruments that break down or need maintenance.
  • The fast 10 second measurement response was a benefit as it allowed an immediate response to leak issues.
  • The measurement resolution to 0.001% was found to be “Better than good enough.”
  • It provided a repeatable measurement that may or may not be accurate for all permeate streams but provided a reliable and repeatable status of the current process operation.
  • When discussing return on investment, the simple and quick sampling method provided has already been able to find leaking O-Rings and membranes. The system will be able to pay for itself by being able to quickly narrow down leaks.

As of June 27, 2025, this cheese company has four FluorLite Protein Meters in operation at four different plants.
